La Guyana è terra di canna da zucchero e di Rum. Vi si ha infatti natizia della coltivazione della canna da zucchero e della distillazione già a partire dal XVII secolo. Nel 1952 le cinque distillerie superstiti vennero fuse in un'unica distilleria sistuata alla foce del fiume Demerara. Da qui prende nome il prestigioso rum prodotto in questa lussureggiante regione. Questa selezione proviene da una distillazione in alambicco del 1991 invecchiata in piccola botte di rovere fino all'imbottigliamento, avvenuto nel mese di settembre 2004. Questa bottiglia è una delle 370 ottenute dalla botte selezionata.
